Villalobos Takes Charge in Miami-Dade Schools | Miami News

Rafael Villalobos, a veteran of Miami-Dade County Public Schools with three decades of experience, has officially taken the helm as superintendent amid steep enrollment declines and budget pressures. He’s already paused plans to close or overhaul 20 under-enrolled schools, pledging to listen to the community and prioritize student needs. With 15,000 fewer students this year, Villalobos is focused on bringing kids back into traditional public schools and ensuring they’re ready for whatever lies ahead — all while preparing to adjust the district’s budget as needed.
