Vince Papale on making the Eagles roster and "Invincible"

Papale grew up just outside of Philadelphia with a mom who played baseball and a dad who loved sports.  In high school, Vince lettered in multiple sports although he played just one year of football.  Track & Field would be the sport that Papale would excel in and get him to St. Joseph’s in Philadelphia on a scholarship.  After graduation, Papale became a teacher and coach at his alma mater, Interboro High School. During this time, he would play in various football leagues including the Seaboard Football League for the Aston Green Knights and the World Football League where he played for the Philadelphia Bell from 1974-75 when the league disbanded. In 1976, Papale met with Philadelphia Eagles coach Dick Vermeil and was invited to training camp where he made the roster as a wide receiver and special teams member.  At age 30, Papale became the oldest rookie in NFL history with no college experience (kickers excluded).  From 1976-79, Papale played 41 games for the Eagles before a shoulder injury led to his retirement.  Broadcasting, real estate and other ventures followed his retirement.  Disney eventually came calling to make a movie about his life and in 2006 “Invincible” starring Mark Wahlberg was released.  Papale currently spends his time traveling the country as a motivational speaker.  Vince shares tales from his incredible journey including advice Dr. Jack Ramsey gave him at St. Joe’s, his conversations and relationship with Dick Vermeil, the first game he played at The Vet in Philadelphia and his mom’s mental illness.
