Vineland residents voice opposition to proposed expansion of data center

from KYW Newsradio Audio On-Demand

People packed a public meeting in Vineland, Cumberland County, to object to the proposed expansion of a data center. Officials moved the meeting from City Hall to the Landis Theater because there was such a large crowd. The facility, which is still under construction, would cover about the size of 45 football fields and would be located about a mile from some nearby homes. Several people complained about what they described as a humming sound already coming from the site. The center's owner, Data One, says the site is operating in compliance with local noise ordinance limits. Other attendees brought up concerns about the project's water usage. The company said it had not yet calculated the amount of water needed for every operation. (Photo credit: NBC10)
