Vinny Valentino Interview

from The Jazz Real Book · host Jay Sweet

Vinny Valentino is an acclaimed jazz guitarist, composer, educator, and internet pioneer whose career has successfully bridged performance, technology, and music education. Raised in Northern Virginia, he studied at Northern Virginia Community College, George Mason University, and Howard University, where he earned his degree in jazz. Inspired by guitar legends Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Pat Martino, and George Benson, Valentino developed a lyrical, modern style that earned Benson's personal endorsement and praise. Throughout his career he has performed and recorded with Chick Corea, Steve Smith, Steve Gadd, Randy Brecker, Tom Scott, Gary Bartz, Russell Ferrante, Dennis Chambers, Jimmy McGriff, John Patitucci, John Benitez, and Tom Coster. As one of the first musicians to embrace the internet, he launched Vinny.com, offering online lessons, clinics, and performances while creating the innovative Play Along Jazz educational platform. He also serves as Music Director of Drum Fantasy Camp, where he oversees the camp's musical programming, directs concerts and jam sessions, teaches groove classes, and mentors drummers on musical interaction and ensemble performance.
