from Arts Nexus Hosted by Arts Nexus
In Conversation with Kyrene Paine Guest performer: Jim Griffith Produced by Melissa Robertson at Arts Nexus Studio http://www.artsnexus.com.au/nexus-hub... A personal journey as a musician from the teachers that inspired her, supported by her talented parents and the orchestras Kyrene has played in. Now with two degrees, two jobs and a string of experiences, Kyrene has switched from Violin to Viola. Follow this journey to find out how this happened and what that means to a musician to switch instruments. This podcast aims to inspire young musicians through sharing Kyrene’s story. From her birth and early years in London, U.K to moving to Cairns, Australia, now living in Melbourne. Learning violin at the age of 8, tutored by her mother, the virtuosic, internationally famed violinist, Kirtley Walker-Halstead, Kyrene went on to achieve a scholarship to the Trinity Anglican School in Cairns. Influenced and inspired by the many teachers and orchestra leaders along the way, Kyrene has now become a teacher and mentor to young people herself. “My love for the violin and now the viola, the community orchestras and concerts I have played in and now the move to Melbourne has enabled me to sustain myself professionally. Now with various music teaching jobs, a Bachelor of Creative Industries (JCU) and my current degree, Bachelor of Education (Victoria Uni) majoring in music, I look forward to the future, always playing music.” Guest appearance by Jim Griffith, CEO, Sidney & Berne Davis Art Centre As a native Floridian principally raised here in Southwest Florida, Jim developed an early appreciation for the arts through the public school system. It was there he had his first experiences with live theater, ballet, and orchestra, experiences that launched Jim into a career in the Arts. This inspiration took him all the way to The Juilliard School and right back here to Southwest Florida. "We must never lose sight of the tremendous impact the performing and visual arts can have on the quality of life for everyone, especially our future generations. Fostering imagination and creative thinking helps children connect to themselves and their cultures. The arts can speak directly to their dreams and aspirations.” Jim is a mentor and inspiration to Kyrene - and her Uncle. #violin #Violin #music #classicalmusic #busking #teacher #student #mentors #university #study #farnorthqueensland #london #melbourne
