Virginia AG Forms New Legal Unit | US News

Virginia’s Attorney General Jay Jones has unveiled a new legal unit, the Federal Accountability Unit, to challenge what he calls Trump administration overreach that harms Virginians. Staffed by four attorneys, the team will target federal policies on tariffs, elections, healthcare, immigration, and more — aiming to protect state interests and democracy. While Jones frames this as proactive defense, some Virginia Republicans accuse him of ignoring core duties, calling his actions an overreach themselves. The DOJ stands ready to defend federal policies, and the White House is being asked for comment on this bold new move.
