Virginia and Maine, Attorneys, Mayors and UFOs

A flurry of UFO reports in Virginia in 1965 caused a Sheriff to say ‘enough now’. Sightings and reports were almost every other call, and most were reporting the same thing. John Kent, the sheriff in question told the Richmond Times Despatch the sheer number of reports which were flooding into his office was causing real concern with himself and his officers that it was damaging their response to other matters and putting the community in danger. The sightings had fostered fear in some of the population, so much so that a posse from Brands Flars had been formed to shoot the visitors. This escalated quickly to the State Attorney General, who replied “There is no law that prohibits the shooting of little green men who may or may not be in the United States without the necessary paperwork”. A similar sort of thing happened in Bangor, Maine in March 1966, when a local man observed a craft in the sky. Driving along one of the numerous country roads, the mans attention was attracted to a large, saucer shaped object hanging in the sky over the road in front of him. As he pulled up to observe it, the craft slowly moved to the right of his position and descended, before approaching the mans’ location scraping trees and other tall obstacles en-route. The man, who was not named, took out a pistol from the glove box of his vehicle and fired five shots into the thing, and all five seemed to just bounce off leaving no visible impact. However, the machine paused, reversed and moved away. The man reported the event and investigators found that indeed something large had knocked at least 5 foot off the top of the trees in a south by south west direction.
