Vishu Jadhav: Nala Sopara's diamond in tennis-ball cricket

Vishwanath ‘Vishu’ Jadhav used to play under-arm cricket as a kid and always wanted to be a batter. He often used to accompany his local team to cricket games but never liked it when he was used just as a fielder. Even then he was clear about two things - he enjoys batting and he doesn’t enjoy studying. Vishu used to roll his arm in practice and would do well against left-handed batters. But one day he was asked to defend a small total against a south-paw batter and he managed to do that. That’s how he became an all-rounder. Today, he travels across Maharashtra and internationally to play tennis-ball cricket and has carved a successful career for himself. He shares his journey with Amol Gokhale in this episode of Kattyawarchya Gappa… विश्वनाथ 'विशू' जाधवने त्याच्या धानीव ह्या नालासोपाऱ्यातल्या गावात लहानपणी अंडरआर्म क्रिकेट खेळायला सुरुवात केली आणि त्याला कायम फलंदाज व्हायचं होतं. लहानपणापासून विशूला दोन गोष्टी पक्क्या ठाऊक होत्या. एक म्हणजे, जर त्याला फलंदाजी मिळणार असेल तरच त्याला क्रिकेट खेळण्यात रस होता आणि दुसरं म्हणजे अभ्यासात बिलकुल रस नव्हता. पण प्रॅक्टिसमध्ये डावखुऱ्या फलंदाजांना चांगली गोलंदाजी करतो म्हणून त्याला सामन्यात पण गोलंदाजी मिळाली आणि तिथून विशू फलंदाजाचा अष्टपैलू झाला. आज विशू केवळ महाराष्ट्रातच नाही तर भारताबाहेरही टेनिस-बॉल क्रिकेट खेळायला जातो आणि त्यात त्याने यशस्वी कारकिर्द घडवली आहे. त्याचा हा अंडरआर्म क्रिकेट ते इंडियन स्ट्रीट प्रिमियर लीगपर्यंतचा प्रवास त्याने उलगडला आहे कट्ट्यावरच्या गप्पांमध्ये अमोल गोखलेबरोबर...
