One man rose from Turkish captivity to save his people, and would as a result become one of the most fascinating—and brutal—leaders in Christendom. His name was Vlad Tepes, but he was best known as Vlad Dracul or, more ominously, Vlad the Impaler. In the late 1800s, Bram Stoker found documents about Vlad's brutal methods and in turn wrote the famous novel, Dracula. He told of a blood sucking vampire who could never die. But how do we separate the myth of Dracula from the real man, Vlad Tepes, who was no doubt brutal but was also known as a defender of the West?In this episode, we talk about Vlad, the true story behind the man, and the vicious propaganda campaign waged against him.
