VMware Multi-Cloud Podcast: Lee Caswell, VMware VP discusses the State of Cloud
from VMware Podcasts · host VMware Podcasts
On this Multi-cloud podcast edition, Eric Nielsen and David Jasso sit down with Lee Caswell, a VP of VMware’s Cloud Platform Business Unit. Lee and the rest of the executive team for this business unit are responsible for VMware Cloud Foundation, a complete cloud stack (compute, storage, networking and management) that runs in the data center, on the edge, on thousands of managed service provider partner environments and now on the hyper-scaler cloud environments of AWS, Azure, Google, IBM, Oracle and Alibaba. Our discussion with Lee was far ranging. Lee started the discussion by recapping some interesting viewpoints on this topic from industry luminaries like Satya Nadella of Microsoft, and Pat Gelsinger, VMware’s former CEO. Lee also gives his own view of where he sees the state of the cloud marketplace. After this, Lee gave us a tour of some of the innovations that VMware has brought to the market in the past few years starting with project Pacific which rearchitected vSphere and introduced support for Kubernetes and containers. We also discussed project Monterrey which is focused on continuing that re-architecture effort by focusing on optimizing VMware Cloud Foundation to take advantage of hardware innovations including the advent of Smart NICs and the continuous innovation GPU chip design and performance.
