Vocation: Pursue a Calling, not a Career
from Syndal Baptist Church Audio · host Chris Danes
VOCATION Overview Vocation is a word rooted in the Latin word ‘Vocare’ (to Call). Many times people treat the word “Vocation” as interchangeable with job or career. Vocation is so much more. Many Christians only attribute the word calling to Church or certain not for profit roles. This is not a biblical view of work. Join us over the next four weeks as we explore the idea of finding meaning, purpose and even the will of God in your workplace. Vocation – Week 1 (Sun. June 30) “Pursue A Calling, Not A Career” “A job is a vocation only if some one else calls you to do it, and you do it for them rather than yourself!”[1] Many Christians mistakenly think that the most significant reason God has placed them in their workplace is purely behavioral (“I need to share my faith in word and deed”). What might it do to our work practices and attitudes if God actually chooses to reveal himself through the work of our hands? Can our calling bring glory to God and blessing to humanity no matter what we do? Join us this week as Chris Danes explores the true meaning of vocation and its implications for your work life.
