Volkswagen: LFP Cell-to-Pack Batteries for Affordable BEVs

Volkswagen aims to reduce the cost of electric vehicles by adopting LFP batteries with cell-to-pack technology for its future affordable models, the ID.2 and ID.1. This strategy will enable the use of less expensive and safer batteries, overcoming their lower energy density through an innovative design that eliminates intermediate modules and reduces overall weight. The production of these batteries will take place in Europe, specifically at the Salzgitter Gigafactory, as well as in Spain and Canada, highlighting the group's commitment to accessible electric mobility. The goal is to make electric vehicles competitively priced, overcoming the entry barrier represented by the high initial cost.
