Danny Rong, Biochemiker, bekommt wegen seiner unkonventionellen Ansichten Schwierigkeiten in seinem Institut und muss gehen. Nach längerer zwangsweiser Arbeitslosigkeit wird ihm in einem anderen Institut eine Stelle angeboten. Nach einem Gespräch mit dem Leiter des Instituts weiß Rong, was hier vor sich geht. Computerproduzieren Science-Fiction-Romane. Sie beherrschen zwar Satzbau, Grammatik und Sprachstil, aber um originelle Handlungen zu schaffen, brauchen sie einen ständigen Inputvon Ideen, die auf fatale Art und Weise den im Institut arbeitenden Wissenschaftlern abverlangt werden.
