Voters in Iowa, California head to polls for key primaries ahead of 2026 midterm elections

After incumbent Republican Senator Joni Ernst decided not to run again, the race for the vacant seat is set to pit Josh Turek (Democrat) , who won a landslide victory in his primary, against Ashley Hinson (Republican). With about 60% of the vote verified, independent/Republican candidate Steve Hilton holds a narrow lead with 27.2% , trailing Democratic former HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra with 26% .
