Washington State's Labor & Industries has launched a formal investigation into We Heart Seattle — the volunteer group that has spent six years pulling needles out of Seattle's public parks. The same needles the government distributed under its harm reduction program. The agency's official position: you need special certification and hazmat protocols to pick up paraphernalia the state handed out for free.We Heart Seattle founder Andrea Suarez has been served notice. Her group has removed thousands of needles from city parks without incident, building a cleanup record that publicly funded agencies couldn't replicate. That work earned her a cease-and-desist from Seattle officials back in 2021. Now it's earned her a state labor investigation in 2026.This is one-party government operating exactly as designed.
