Waging War Against the Flesh | Romans 8:12–17

We have a tendency to forget the reality that we are in a grave spiritual war. This war is against the passions of the flesh, which wage war against our soul (1 Peter 2:11). Jesus Himself used wartime language: “If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.” (Matthew 5:29-30) Are you living with a peacetime mindset in the midst of this great war? If we have relaxed, sin has not.
