Wait… Multiversus Was An Open Beta and E3 is Officially Dead?

Multiversus was apparently an "open beta" and is shutting down in June until "early 2024" but people spent real money on this game and there seems to be no mention of it being a beta on the store page so what is going on and is this fair?
