Wake the Wild Within: Elk, Faith, and the Rhythm of the Woods

Opening weekend in Southern Oregon finds Nate Bailey and his son Gage packing deep into elk country—bugling across canyons, glassing quiet wallows, and nearly sealing the deal on a hard-charging bull. But this story runs deeper than inches of antler. Nate unpacks the rhythm of the outdoors—how reading elk sign, separating caller and shooter, and moving with the timber’s tempo mirrors a life of submission, discipline, and worship. From locator bugles over a prairie edge to reflections on social media’s “big bull” obsession, this episode is a call to re-center: trade comfort for grit, numbers for nuance, and spectacle for legacy. If you’ve ever wondered how fly casts, sore legs, and north-facing slopes can shape your soul, this one’s for you. Wake the wild within—and meet God in the elk woods. 🦃 Faith. Family.
