Wake the Wild Within: Mentorship, Meat, and the Meaning of the Outdoors

In this deeply personal and reflective episode of The Life Outdoors Radio Show, host Nate Bailey explores how the outdoors awakens truth, character, and purpose in a world increasingly disconnected from reality. Nate shares the story of how a substitute teacher and fly-fishing mentor sparked a lifelong passion in him—and how he now passes that fire on to others, including a young hunter named David. From childhood days casting lines in the Sprague River to mentoring backcountry elk hunts in the rugged Ochoco Mountains, this episode dives into the spiritual, ethical, and physical realities of hunting, food, and life itself. With themes of mentorship, gratitude, sacrifice, and rediscovering what it means to be human, Nate calls listeners back to the wild—not to escape, but to return to the truth of who they are and who God created them to be. If you've ever wondered why the outdoors moves your soul or how hunting ties into something much deeper than sport, this episode is for you. 🦃 Faith. Family.
