Wall on Sacred Land Sparks Tribal Clash | US News

Tension flares as the Trump administration bulldozes ahead with a border wall in southern Arizona, directly onto sacred Tohono Oodham Nation land—sparking legal battles, tribal outrage, and accusations of trespassing. Despite a federal judge’s green light, contractors—escorted by armed agents—are already drilling and sampling soil, even blocking tribal police. The tribe, which spans both U.S. and Mexican borders, argues the project devastates ancestral sites and violates their sovereignty. Customs says it’s vital to stop drug trafficking and migrant deaths on one of the Southwest’s deadliest routes. With billions already spent and no sign of stopping, this clash underscores the growing conflict between national security and Native American rights.
