War on the Saints - Jessie Penn-Lewis

This episode looks at the life and teachings of Jessie Penn-Lewis, a prominent figure in the Welsh Revival and the Keswick movement. Her work, primarily War on the Saints, analyzes the intense spiritual warfare she believed followed revival, specifically warning against demonic deception and the dangers of spiritual passivity. The texts contrast her experiential focus on counterfeit manifestations with Jonathan Edwards’ more theological framework for discerning true works of the Holy Spirit. While her writings remain influential for their emphasis on the centrality of the Cross, they also draw criticism for their controversial views on demonic influence over believers. Together, these materials provide a historical and biblical-theological survey of discernment, vigilance, and the pursuit of holiness in the face of spiritual conflict.
