Washington Shows Promise in Opener | Maryland Terrapins Football News

Maryland’s football team crushed Hampton 62-0 in their season opener, but quarterback Malik Washington showed early rust—struggling with accuracy and decision-making. Despite a shaky start that included stalled drives and inconsistent receiver connections, Washington flashed potential late in the first half with a clutch touchdown to Naeem Gladding. He also spread the ball to 11 different receivers, showcasing his ability to involve multiple playmakers. With UConn up next, the Terps’ offensive line must step up to protect Washington and give him time to read defenses—key to unlocking a more consistent passing game as he builds momentum.
