Dr. Ahmed is a Lecturer in Digital Business with a specialism in social media research in the Department of Marketing, Operations and Systems at Newcastle University. He completed his PhD at the University of Sheffield and his thesis examined the role of social media during infectious disease outbreaks. More recently, he has been working on examining social media data related to the COVID-19 Pandemic and specifically the spread of conspiracy theories on platforms such as Twitter. He is a regular contributor to the London School of Economics and Political Sciences Impact Blog and has been writing on tools and methods to extract data from social media platforms.
