Watch Movies Mindfully By Doing Your Research

from SocialMediaBreakup · host Johan

Watching movies is a relaxing activity which involves a screen. There’s nothing wrong with that. One of the activities you can take on (especially with the pandemic still going on), is collective screen time. By collective screen time, I don’t mean mindless screen time. I mean you plan screen time together with your family or friends. In such moments, you stop using your individual devices. No mobile phones, no handhelds, no tablets, no consoles etc. You all engage in that one activity like watching a movie. Whether you watch with a group or alone, I suggest doing a bit of research. Oftentimes we choose what is easiest. That apparent option. But to increase your chances of a successful experience, why not do a bit of movie research? I don’t watch a lot of movies anymore, only on Saturdays and Sundays sometimes. So when I do decide to watch a movie, I want to make it worth my while. I want to make the best out of that moment. There are many great movies and many not so great movies, which may become great depending on which mood I’m in! So what I do, is I use the IMDB website, and use the advanced search. There I search for movies that have e.g. at least a 7.8 rating, with 50K votes and are from 2000-2020. Then I check where the movie is available. There is also a top 250 best movies ever list you can check. You can for example also do some research about available Netflix movies and see which ones really fit you. This advise doesn’t only apply to movies but also to books and board games for example. Make sure you use your time wisely and mindfully, even when you engage in entertainment. Be a bit curious. Don’t just pick any random option. Get excited and dig a bit deeper. Be like this not with entertainment only, but make this the default mindset of how you look at life. Appreciate the moments you have with yourself and with others, and live life proactively and not passively all the time.
