Watching While You Work - Luke 12:35-43
from Chris Stuart - Tyndale’s Plowboy Hosted by cstpb
The central message of this sermon is that followers of Jesus must live with a sense of anticipation and readiness for His return, which is imminent. This requires being "on guard" and "on task," not just in terms of being prepared for physical danger or external threats, but also in terms of spiritual vigilance and responsiveness to God's presence in daily life. The sermon draws on several parables from Luke 12, including the images of waiting for a master's return, watching for a thief, and managing a household, to emphasize the importance of being prepared for Jesus' second coming at any moment. By living with this sense of anticipation and readiness, believers can cultivate a deeper relationship with God and be more faithful stewards of their lives and resources. Ultimately, the sermon affirms that the core issue is not about rewards or punishments in an afterlife, but about experiencing intimacy with God now, and avoiding being cut off from Him forever.
