Kilkenny-born, Mount Sion-educated William Joseph Kenny would travel the world in the late 19th and early 20th century. His story began attending universities in Germany and France to working as a student interpreter in China and Japan. Kenny rose through the ranks of the British consular services, leading the Irishman to become British Consul-General in the Philippines in 1903.
