For the year leading up WHAS Radio's 100th birthday, Wayne Perkey talked about his life, family, and career at WHAS and elsewhere.Wayne was originally asked to lead off the series in the summer of 2021 but he wanted to wait until his birthday week the next January. He would be turning 84 and loved the symmetry with the station's frequency. Perkey came to WHAS in 1970 to jump start it from a middle-of-the-road format to a faster paced talk and rock music format.Here's the interview recorded on January 14, 2021. Wayne was his chipper, vibrant self but was fighting COVID at the time. He was acting as a caregiver for his longtime wife Jane Anne when he contracted COVID and ultimately succumbed to it.
