Ways to Support Someone with BPD

from You and Me and BPD Hosted by Stef RB

In this episode, I offer 5 tips on how we can support someone on their mental health journey. The majority of messages I get from people who listen to this podcast ask how they can support their partner, loved-one, or friend who has BPD. Offering support is such a beautiful thing to do but it can also leave people feeling confused or afraid of saying the wrong thing. The 5 tips I gave are : 1. Do your Research 2. Develop Open Communication 3. Practice Empathy 4. See the individual in the diagnosis and 5. Take care of your own personal mental health. Offering support to people needs to come from a loving perspective, not from a place of judgement or thinking that you can 'cure' someone else. These tips can also be applied to other mental health situations but I tried to keep it pretty specific with how BPD operates in individuals.
