We Are Here to Serve

What does it look like when a church stops being a place people simply attend and becomes a community where everyone has a role, a purpose, and a place to belong? That question sits at the heart of this message, which walks us through the biblical foundation for servant leadership and the office of deacon. Drawing from Romans 12 and the broader New Testament, we are reminded that serving is not optional for the follower of Christ. It is woven into the very fabric of what it means to be the church. The Greek word behind our English word deacon paints a vivid picture of people who raise dust by moving, by going, by doing. Not busy for the sake of busyness, but purposefully and supernaturally serving the body. We are challenged to see that while not everyone holds the office of deacon, every one of us is called to serve. Just as every believer is called to share the gospel even if they do not carry the spiritual gift of evangelism, every believer is called to serve even if they are not formally set apart as a deacon. This message invites us to ask ourselves honestly where we are placing our hands and our hearts in the life of our community.
