We Are the Medicine: Why Psychedelics Alone Won’t Heal You

In this episode, I sit down with Lou Dorian and Josh from Psychedelist for one of the more honest conversations I have had about what psychedelic medicine can and cannot do. We talk about the difference between reaching for a substance as a ‘set it and forget it’ fix and doing the slower work of building skills: breathwork, somatic processing, integration, and the belief work that so often surfaces the childhood trauma underneath the presenting problem. Josh shares his path from thirteen VA medications to ketamine-assisted therapy and the practices that carried him through it. Lou offers his thesis that our mental health is shaped as much by the world around us as by anything inside us. A mathematician by training, Lou came to this work through his own long and difficult history with psychedelics, grief, and trauma, and through the breathwork and somatic practices he credits with saving his life.
