We Don't Know How to Hold Grief
from Good Movement Draws Good Movement
In today’s episode, I’m talking about how we don’t know how to hold grief. Over the last three years, I've experienced loss and uncertainty in ways I never anticipated. After my dad died suddenly in 2023, I knew I couldn't simply shove the grief down as I had before.Shortly before his death, I heard something that has stayed with me ever since: we don't know how to hold mystery, and we don't know how to hold grief. So, I found support and began learning how to experience grief (rather than run from it).We can learn to sit with grief, and allow it to deepen our compassion, love, and capacity for joy. THAT is part of being fully alive, too!In this episode, I cover:Why so many of us feel uncomfortable with griefWhy avoiding grief doesn't make it disappearLearning to hold both grief & uncertaintyHow seeking support changed my relationship with lossHow making room for sadness can deepen our capacity for joyWhy bright-siding can diminish someone's experience of griefBefriending grief instead of trying to numb or escape itThe secret to being fully alive Make sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode!
