“We Had to Start Treating Them as Human Beings”

Dr. Philip Pallister began working as a physician at the Montana State Training School in Boulder in 1947. Though he only intended to stay a few years, he ended up dedicating his life to the care of people with disabilities. His quest to learn more about his patients and to treat their ailments took him into the burgeoning field of genetics and led to world-renowned discoveries. He also joined other Montanans to advocate for the rights of those with disabilities. Northern Arizona University historian and native Montanan Linda Sargent Wood shares the general practitioner’s story and then turns the podium over to Dr. Pallister for additional remarks.
