We Love Hakka (Song: 生祥樂隊-江湖卡夫卡 Kafka on the Rivers-and-Lakes)
from We Love Hakka 客家風情 · host ICRT
Sheng Xiang & Band’s previous songs primarily discussed themes related to home and social activism. However, with the song "Kafka on the Rivers-and-Lakes," lyricist鍾永豐breaks away from this tradition and uses a more autobiographical perspective. In the song, 鍾永豐revisits his earlier days as a small cog in the bureaucratic machine, confronting challenging issues that he was powerless to resolve. This evokes a sense of desperation, much like being caught up in the world, with no control over one's destiny. This situation draws parallels with the main character in Kafka's "Metamorphosis," who, despite his own transformation into a bug, is not concerned about why his body has changed. Rather, his primary concern is how he can continue to provide for his family. Everything feels trapped, like an insect unable to transform into a butterfly, perpetually incapable of progressing to the next stage. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn
