We Love Outdoors May 3, 2021 - Episode 5

May 1 marked an exciting day for many outdoors enthusiasts, as we saw NY State's Walleye and Northern Pike seasons open for business, while hunters saw the opening of Spring Turkey Season statewide.  Your host, Rich Davenport provides updates on the openers, with some tips on staying safe while turkey hunting, and also how to stay safe and reducing the chances of tick exposure.  Lyme Disease is on the rise, as is wildlife populations, and knowing how to prevent exposure is very important when heading afield, especially during spring.  Fallout continues from the Sturgeon Point Marina public meeting, with no plans yet in place, but more help could be on the way.  NY legalizes recreational marijuana, but this doesn't change the federal side of the coin, which could put in jeopardy many firearms owners and their rights to keep and bear arms.  US Supreme Court has agreed to hear NYSRPA vs Corlett, a watershed case concerning CCW permits and requiring a "need" to secure your right to carry concealed.  State Senator George Borrello has introduced legislation which would implement a moratorium on all offshore wind turbine development in any freshwater of NY, including Lakes Erie and Ontario, great news for all!  Finally, Rich examines the history of Lake Erie and the pollution days, as to hopefully help educate those who may not be aware of the scope of the issues, in hopes we can avoid another terrible disaster caused by the folly of man.
