In 2026, we finally mapped the full clitoral nerve network.An organ that exists in over half the population. An organ that is central to sensation and function. An organ that, until now, we didn’t fully understand.And the immediate response I’ve been seeing is: “well, the female body is more complex.” But that’s exactly the point.The female body is complex: hormonally, immunologically, anatomically. But instead of that complexity driving deeper research, it has historically been used as a reason to exclude women from it.For decades, women were left out of clinical trials because our bodies were seen as “confounding variables.” Instead of building better science, we simplified the data, and then applied it back to women anyway.So when we talk about this milestone, it’s not just about finally mapping a nerve network. It’s about recognizing how long we’ve been operating with incomplete information, and how that has impacted everything from surgical outcomes to symptom recognition to overall care.
