Today is a special day, it's my birthday! 🙆🏻It's also a really volatile time in the world. So many things in the healthcare space are in deep dysfunction. Nurses are being harmed daily on the job and we have people making laws that shape our work environment that are completely inadequate for our safety and well-being. It's easy to want to bury your head in the sand and ignore what's happening, but that is not an option.  We must unite and take action as a collective. Nurses are a mighty collective when we focus our energy and intentions on moving forward not backwards, we will overcome. Nurses are the pulse of healthcare and it's time we step into that role and receive the respect we deserve. The onus is on us. Are you going to sit back and be a bystander or are you going to take action to move us forward?  In light of Senator Mauren Walsh's comments about nurses in rural hospitals playing cards for a majority of their shift, I reflected on what her comment meant to me and my work over the last 21 years. I will never allow someone else to dictate how I feel about my career.
