We Painted Each Other While Wearing Sunglasses
from A New Lens · host Wild Will
Apparently the best way to have a serious conversation about art is to put on sunglasses and try to paint each other. I sat down with an artist, we each grabbed a canvas, put the shades on, and attempted portraits of one another while talking about art, creativity, interpretation, the process of making something, and the question that always seems to come up eventually: what actually makes something art? The paintings went about as smoothly as you would expect. We unfortunately lost a chunk of the original interview footage, but we were able to salvage about 30 minutes of the conversation — along with plenty of the painting chaos — and I’m really glad we did. There’s something I love about having a genuinely thoughtful conversation while simultaneously doing something a little ridiculous. That’s pretty much A New Lens in a nutshell. So I want to hear from you: Which portrait came out better? And more importantly — does something have to be “good” to be good art? Let me know what you think below. If you enjoy strange experiments, good conversations, creative rabbit holes, and seeing the world through a slightly different lens, subscribe and stick around for more A New Lens. #Art #ArtistInterview #Painting #ANewLens #Creativity
