We Should Treat Our Votes As We Do A TikTok trend! — Ep40.

from "I Love My HBCU?"

A first for the podcast, I Love My HBCU? welcomes HBCU Now Matthew Dormus to a highly engaged conversation. The first Oakwood University student or alumni to join us. One of Alabama’s fourteen HBCUs, Oakwood is private, is uniquely a Seventh day Adventist University and is located in Huntsville, Alabama. When one rattles off names of HBCUs, Oakwood may not make the list of the often mentioned; we had to get into this. Smaller HBCUs don’t always get their due widespread publicity. Oakwood for example has one of the more successful championship teams competing both academically and musically. Competing in the Honda Campus All Star Challenge, OU has won the top spot four times in 35 years. Oakwood also holds the title of Choir of the World, having competed internationally for that title. Dormus who is the incoming Mr. Oakwood University for the 2024-2025 academic year, proudly serves as an ambassador for Oakwood and is set on leaving as part of his legacy, better public relations for his school. There is so much that Oakwood University students are doing to put their university on the map and according to Matthew, “the Positive PR, kind of falls through.” Beyond his OU pride, Matthew calls out his generation to get their voice heard and presence felt on national issues. Like many in his generation, he questions the state of political leadership in generation, but the answer isn’t criticism if you ask him, but involvement. Tune in to hear Matthew challenge his peers to get involved in a way that they understand. *All opinions expressed by guests do not reflect the views of all entities of "I Love My HBCU?"
