Webinar #161 Dan Strange - Magnetic faith, magnetic spaces

from ICMDA Recordings · host ICMDA

Recorded on 10 August 2023 for ICMDA Webinars. Dr Mark Pickering chairs a webinar with Dan Strange. In this seminar Dan will outline the major themes from his book Making Faith Magnetic which develops the theological anthropology of the 20th Dutch missionary and scholar J.H. Bavinck. Our focus will be the ‘religious consciousness’ of all human beings which can be summarised as ‘magnetic points’ – perennial themes and questions which all humans beings answer in their lives. These magnetic points are a fruitful way of thinking about evangelism, discipleship and cultural renewal in whatever cultural context God has placed you. Dan is the director of Crosslands Forum, a centre for cultural engagement. Formerly he was college director at Oak Hill College, London. He is a visiting professor at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, contributing editor for Themelios, and vice president of The Southgate Fellowship, and a Fellow of The Keller Center for Cultural Apologetics. His most recent books are Plugged In (The Good Book Company, 2019), and Making Faith Magnetic (The Good Book Company, 2021). Dan is married to Elly, has seven children and a foster child, and is an elder of Hope Community Church in Gateshead in the North East of England.

Song Against Songs, The by G. K. Chesterton (1874 - 1936) LibriVox LibriVox volunteers bring you 9 recordings of The Song Against Songs by G. K. Chesterton. This was the Fortnightly Poetry project for October 16, 2011.Chesterton was a large man, standing 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) and weighing around 21 stone (130 kg; 290 lb). His girth gave rise to a famous anecdote. During World War I a lady in London asked why he was not 'out at the Front'; he replied, 'If you go round to the side, you will see that I am.' On another occasion he remarked to his friend George Bernard Shaw: "To look at you, anyone would think a famine had struck England". Shaw retorted, "To look at you, anyone would think you have caused it". P. G. Wodehouse once described a very loud crash as "a sound like Chesterton falling onto a sheet of tin."( Summary from Wikipedia ) Summer 2011 | Public lectures and events | Video London School of Economics and Political Science Video files from LSE's summer 2011 programme of public lectures and events, for more recordings and pdf documents see the corresponding audio collection.
