Webinar #166 Dr Santhosh Mathew - Work, vocation, profession, and the heart of God

from ICMDA Recordings · host ICMDA

Recorded on 14 September 2023 for ICMDA Webinars. Dr Peter Saunders chairs a webinar with Dr Santhosh Mathew. The ‘world of work’ is changing. Covid-19 and work from home, the post covid economic challenges, the Ukraine war and the uncertainty of the future in a divided world has brought the discussion on the purpose of work to the forefront. AI and related developments will affect the way work is perceived in the near future. Though healthcare can be protected from major disruptions, some of the aspects are impacting thinking in healthcare too. This webinar will revisit the theology of work, a framework to look at work as a calling and vocation and reflect on how these understandings can influence our professional life and choices. Santhosh trained as an Internal Medicine specialist and worked part time as an Internal Medicine Consultant in Duncan Hospital, India, a 225 bedded hospital near the Nepal border. He is the training coordinator for ICMDA developing an online learning platform and is the ICMDA Regional Secretary for South Asia. He has pioneered HIV & TB health care programmes in marginalised communities and is involved in hospital leadership roles across North India. He is married to Saira, an Anaesthetist, and they have two children.

Song Against Songs, The by G. K. Chesterton (1874 - 1936) LibriVox LibriVox volunteers bring you 9 recordings of The Song Against Songs by G. K. Chesterton. This was the Fortnightly Poetry project for October 16, 2011.Chesterton was a large man, standing 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) and weighing around 21 stone (130 kg; 290 lb). His girth gave rise to a famous anecdote. During World War I a lady in London asked why he was not 'out at the Front'; he replied, 'If you go round to the side, you will see that I am.' On another occasion he remarked to his friend George Bernard Shaw: "To look at you, anyone would think a famine had struck England". Shaw retorted, "To look at you, anyone would think you have caused it". P. G. Wodehouse once described a very loud crash as "a sound like Chesterton falling onto a sheet of tin."( Summary from Wikipedia ) Summer 2011 | Public lectures and events | Video London School of Economics and Political Science Video files from LSE's summer 2011 programme of public lectures and events, for more recordings and pdf documents see the corresponding audio collection.
