Webinar #68 Dr Soo-Inn Tan - Vocational Discernment

from ICMDA Recordings · host ICMDA

Recorded on 12 August 2021 for ICMDA Webinars. Dr Peter Saunders chairs a webinar with Dr Soo-Inn Tan. We are all called to follow Christ. But is there also a special calling we have been given? This webinar will explore the question of vocation and give helpful guidelines as to how one can discover and carry out one’s calling. This is especially needed in the fields of dentistry and medicine where there are many specialty options including the options of general practice or practicing medicine on the mission field, or even leaving medicine to do something else. Rev Dr Tan Soo Inn qualified as a dentist from the University of Singapore and worked as a dentist for several years before enrolling in seminary in obedience to God’s call for him to serve as a pastor. He obtained a ThM from Regent College and a DMin from Fuller seminary. His passions include connecting the Word of God with the struggles of daily life and the practice and promotion of spiritual friendship. A Malaysian residing in Singapore, he is the chaplain of the Singapore Christian Medical and Dental Fellowship. He has read the Lord of the Rings nine times. Song Against Songs, The by G. K. Chesterton (1874 - 1936) LibriVox LibriVox volunteers bring you 9 recordings of The Song Against Songs by G. K. Chesterton. This was the Fortnightly Poetry project for October 16, 2011.Chesterton was a large man, standing 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) and weighing around 21 stone (130 kg; 290 lb). His girth gave rise to a famous anecdote. During World War I a lady in London asked why he was not 'out at the Front'; he replied, 'If you go round to the side, you will see that I am.' On another occasion he remarked to his friend George Bernard Shaw: "To look at you, anyone would think a famine had struck England". Shaw retorted, "To look at you, anyone would think you have caused it". P. G. Wodehouse once described a very loud crash as "a sound like Chesterton falling onto a sheet of tin."( Summary from Wikipedia ) Summer 2011 | Public lectures and events | Video London School of Economics and Political Science Video files from LSE's summer 2011 programme of public lectures and events, for more recordings and pdf documents see the corresponding audio collection.
