1 John - Sermon 8 1 John 2:28-29 John 3:1-18 (ESV) 1 John 3:1-3 Distinctions for the child of God: 1. You have been lavished with God's love to save you. 2. The world is foreign to us, because it was foreign to Christ. 3. We have been changed from the inside out. 4. We will be ultimately changed when He returns for us. (He IS returning for us) 5. We have confidence/trust/faith in Him, therefore we follow Him. John 8:42-47 More distinctions for the child of God: 1. Our direction has changed. 2. Our desires have changed. 3. Our devotion has changed. 1 John 3:4-7 Righteousness is the only acceptable standard to abide in the presence of God. Opposites of righteousness: 1. Evil 2. Wicked 3. Wrong Rom. 3:10 Is. 64:6 Rom. 4:3-9 2 Cor. 5:21 (ESV) 1 John 3:8-10 If you are born of God: 1. You don't practice sin. You can't. 2. You practice righteousness. 3. You love the church. If you are still a child of the devil: 1. You practice sin. 2. You don't practice right living. 3. You don't love the church.
