Wednesday Jan 7 2026 - Scanner News

from Panhandle Scanner News · host Brian Hale

On Monday, Bayard Public Schools let folks know that they would be participating in a collaborative training exercise with local law enforcement agencies that afternoon from 12:30 to 4:00 pm. The training involved sensitive school safety protocols and for that reason, the public was respectfully asked to refrain from coming to the school during this time. The school's post continued, 'this notice is provided to assure the public that there is no threat or safety concern.' To our knowledge, there was no prior press release and we were not notified of this incident. We understand the public's frustration in not knowing ahead of time. This was only a training exercise. On Sunday around 8pm, the Scottsbluff Fire Department was dispatched to an open field fire north of Chili's for vegetation that was a flame. Crews arrived on seeing a short time later and extinguished the small fire. Through the investigation process, they determined the fire started in an above ground manhole and was suspicious in nature. The incident is under investigation by the Scottsbluff Police Department.  On Tuesday after 3pm in Scottsbluff, there was an unattended burn reported at 3122 East 28th Street. And speaking of the fire marshal, he is out and about. Up in Hemingford, he noticed that a railroad crossing arm was in the road and called that into the Comm Center where that was taken care of. You may have seen that post on Panhandle Scanner. Around 8:30 pm last night, there was a possible assault. A male around 62 years old was reportedly shoved into a wall. He was transported to regional West Medical Center. For these stories and more, visit PanhandleScanner.com or our Facebook page and other social media by the same name. That's going to do it for today's scanner news. Thanks again for listening and may God bless. I'm Brian Hale.
