Our Featured Student is Hilhi senior Justin Escobar Rios! He has been accepted into the highly competitive Ted R. Lilley CURE program - which stands for Continuing Umbrella Research Education - and awarded an eight-week paid internship in a cancer research lab at OHSU. Last year as a CTE Business student, Justin enrolled in Brian Pendergrass’ Intro to Biotech and IB Biology HL2 classes. He was fascinated by the equipment and concepts the Hilhi Biotech program exposed him to, and ended up falling in love with bioscience technology. Instead of business, Justin now sees his future in the biotech world. “I want to become a virologist and work for a big lab,” he shares. “My goal is to be able to contribute in some way to making a vaccine or treatment for a virus.” Excellent choice, Justin, especially given current circumstances.
