Welcome Ozark: How 21 Arkansas Clubs Built a Family Culture and Changed Toastmasters Accessibility

Show NotesSeason 4 Episode 2 is live.This one is a big welcome to Ozark Division.Dewey Magar, Assistant Division Director, walks us through the 21 clubs that just joined District 50 from central and southern Arkansas. That includes Little Rock, Texarkana on both sides of the state line, and clubs stretching from the Missouri border down toward Louisiana.The heart of this episode is culture.Ozark clubs treat meetings like family. Members show up early. They stay late. They talk about real life, not just roles and titles. One club used to share a full meal during the meeting. Guests ate too. Dewey says they prize relationships above titles. First names. Real care when someone is hurting. That is the atmosphere guests notice right away.There is also a story every district should hear.Ozark has a strong community of blind and visually impaired members. About half of Capital Toastmasters is visually impaired. One member who works on government accessibility has helped Toastmasters International improve Base Camp for screen readers and phones. When Pathways launched and many members had no access, Dewey started Pathways University. They stayed after the regular meeting, put the content on a big screen, read it together, and completed a full path in 15 weeks. He still tracks about 50 members, sighted and visually impaired, so nobody gets left behind.The transition into District 50 has been better than they expected. Dewey says the welcome from the trio and D50 leaders has been stronger than anything they had in their old district. The drive to in-person events is longer now, about five hours to Dallas, but they are excited about the communication, the website, and the support.If you are in Ozark and this is your first time listening, welcome.
