Welcome to Asbestos Hall is geïnspireerd op de oorspronkelijke Asbestos Studio uit de jaren zestig van de legendarische Japanse choreograaf Tatsumi Hijikata, grondlegger van de butoh-dansstijl. De ruimte waarin Harrell werkt, belooft een broedplaats te zijn voor experiment, ontwikkeling en artistieke ontmoetingen. Ook zal het dienen voor de presentatie van nieuw werk van Trajal Harrell, een van de belangrijkste hedendaagse choreografen en tevens associate artist bij het Holland Festival 2025.Gawie Keyser gaat in gesprek met schrijver en journalist Ian Buruma, die eind jaren zeventig in Japan als performer kennismaakte met Hijikata en de Asbestos Studio, en met journalist en dramaturg Marijn van der Jagt. Samen schetsen ze de carrière van Trajal Harrell, die zijn roots heeft in de Amerikaanse staat Georgia.
