Welcome to the first episode of what I hope will be many: Midlife Muddle is a space where I speak to you all, warts and all, about the real experiences of reaching midlife, muddling through all the challenges that it brings - and specifically as a neuro-divergent woman with various health issues. I promise it's less gloomy than that makes it sound! This first episode is just a brief introduction, and I talk a little about some books I've listened to recently, some of what's been going on in my life, and the ever important theory of the Fuck Bucket! I'd love to get some input from listeners, so do write to me with your questions, suggestions, stories and your own midlife muddles - I certainly don't have all the answers, but I know that between us there are experts in every situation, every area of guidance, and lived experiences in every area you can possibly imagine, and if I can't give you the advice that will help, I can give your questions to a platform of others who can. You can email in to the podcast on [email protected] or drop a comment or DM to me on TikTok - @i.am.just.lizzie where I've already got a great community of lovely people who care, share and support each other. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

The doings of Americans abroad were staples of the fictions of Henry James and Edith Wharton, but Howells’s view is rather different. As John Updike has said of it, “the felicity of the writing makes us pause in admiration….A midlife crisis has rarely been sketched in fiction with better humor, with gentler comedy and more gracious acceptance of life’s irrevocability.” ( Nicholas Clifford)
