Welcome to the System, Everyone’s a Victim… But You Don’t Have To Be

“Welcome to the system, everyone's a victim Doesn't matter if you're black or white, it hates you all Here inside the system, violence is a symptom Fighting for what's right, but somehow everyone is wrong” Our intro today is by Tom MacDonald who has done some really good work over the past few years just saying it like it is. Who joins a tiny group of artists who either have the balls or the mental capacity to rap about more than their bling and their shorty.  Not to mention the “mumble rap” phenomenon – led by Joe and Nancy, the king and queen of mumble rap, and their new crown princess, Jen Psaki’s gay black successor, who – as she tells us – follows in the footsteps of all her gay black female predecessors.  So, you’ve seen me as a Jennifer the Tranny… and Jeff the Pirate… but probably didn’t know I was a rapper when I was 18 (10 years before Eminem even had his first hit). This was 1988 and rap had basically just begun, and I really felt like I had an opportunity to “make it” as a rapper. (Anyone who has heard my old rap tracks knows that I was woefully, painfully wrong) My rap tracks were played in clubs in Western Canada and were sometimes on the radio and I felt if I had better musical gear to produce the music (I produced all the music myself) I would have a chance to do well.  So, I went into debt for the first time in my life. I bought a $2,000 sampler and another thousand dollars worth of musical equipment. But things never worked out.   The peak of our fame was when we were set to be an opening act for M.C. Hammer as part of his “Can’t Touch This” tour stop in my hometown of Edmonton, Canada.  But the concert ended up being canceled and soon after so did my music career. As an interesting side note, my main competition in Canada was another white rapper who later went on to some Hollywood stardom, Tom Green.  His rap group, named Organized Rhyme, came along about 3 years after my “Jeff Steel Crew” was already playing on the radio in Northern Canada, and, as bad as Organized Rhyme was, they were still better than me.   I folded up shop not long after they came out. And, that’s kind of the moral of today’s story. When to quit and walk away.  Because, if you’re like most people who’ve been relying on banks, and 401(k)s, and IRAs, and safe stocks and bonds to create wealth and save for retirement, you’re in trouble.
