这是周一的节目，所以大家可以再听一次John的声音~Xiaohua: Summer is coming and it’s time to get slimmer. But, sometimes, it is not very easy for people to do it. As a result, Chongqing University decides to give out some extra bonus. Both students and teachers who hit their weight-loss goals will get some extra money. So, do you think this is a good idea? You know, should schools or students unions in this case be doing this?John: First of all, I mean if you want a summer body, you need to start losing weight in the winter. That’s the thing。If you want to lose weight healthy at least. I mean you can’t just be like “Oh, it’s May, I want to wear swim suits, so next week I’m gonna lose ten kilograms and looks really great”. It’s just not gonna work, if you do it in a very unhealthy way it will work, but said “now it is summer, now it is time to lose weight.”, No no no. The time to lose weight was like two months ago, three months ago.Heyang: Yeah, that’s a good point. And here I think what the student union has done is offer cash incentive for people. So apparently that is the price that everybody wants to get and it will even motivate you to shed off the extra kilo. So if you lose 2.5 kilograms, and then you get 10 yuan; if it’s 2.5 to 5 kilos, you get 20 yuan; and if the difference surpasses 5 kilos, then the bonus will be 40 yuan per half-kilos. So, apparently that is something that’s pretty popular in the school right now. And I do think that for a college to offer this, it’s pretty on the point to some extent, because when you look at it in China like often, well, in the US there is freshman 15 - the 15 pounds that, you know, college students gain in the first year. (John: Perhaps there is something to do with the crappy cafeteria food that they’re giving us.) Yeah, the fast food and you know, the abundant choice of dessert. But in China, I think most often in college campuses, there isn’t really all that much for you to do - you go to classes or you just sleep and play video games and eat. John: Well, I think the thing is here, I agree that they’re well-intentioned that tackling the weight issue at some point down the road is important. But it’s not just a weight issue. And again, there is many different ways to lose weight. If you are familiar with anorexia, bulimia, other eating disorders, they can lose 5 kilos easy, no problem, and they can make that much money. I think that really what they should be doing is encouraging healthier life style. To a certain degree they are doing that: if you exercise in the morning, they will give you a breakfast voucher for your breakfast. And if you continue to exercise in the morning, they will give you some other type of... I think they’ll give you a carton of milk... I think that is kinda the way to go. Monetary incentives I think are problematic. You know, weight-based incentives are problematic as well, because you know, people with muscle - they end up weighing more than people who are with fat, right? Xiaohua: Yeah, that’s true. So maybe they should have BMI machine or some there...John: BMI is problematic as well.Xiaohua: Anyway, talking about incentives to lose weight, A Di says many girls want to be thinner when they are trying on gorgeous wedding dresses, so that’s an opportunity for them.John: Well just get a garter, or a corset, just get one of those things....Xiaohua: Do you know how painful it is to put them on?John: I have no idea.
