She isn't afraid of the creature. Instead, she recognises something hidden beneath the horror: a lonely monster. The creature responds to her kindness. And Belphastus is horrified. For the first time, his creation is no longer simply a weapon. It is developing an identity, emotions and a will of its own. Then the little girl does something even more disturbing.
